News of the Band performing at the Fair made the front page of the Entertainment Section along with the announcement of Malcom McDowell (yes, the actor - remember "A Clockwork Orange"?) who will be present at the Port Townsend Film Festival.

Ronnie's Journal Entry :

A day in Quilcene at the 2006 Quilcene Fair and Parade and South County Classic Car Show 2006

We took the State Ferry over to Kingston and it was a beautiful ride getting over to Quilcene. It is a clear reminder to me why I live in this beautiful State of Washington in the Puget Sound area.

As we arrived the classic cars were already rolling in and there were some fantastic automobiles there that day. My favorite was a beautiful black and white Impala with turquoise interior. Good thing I left my checkbook at home!

Almost immediately I ran into Cleone Telling. I happened to ask for advice on where to park and she pleasantly advised. I came across her again, in the cafeteria where the Vocational Cooking School Department provided breakfast, and she, of course, was all smiles. A little later, she was whizzing by in the vendor area with a bouquet of flowers. It is no wonder she is the Citizen of the Year in Quilcene.

I finally got the opportunity to meet Becky Anderson. Becky was involved in the Publicity and Entertainment for the Fair. I am very thankful for all of her hard work, time, and effort she must have gone through in handling this crazy end of responsibilities. A most pleasant and enthusiastic lady. Thank you so much Ms. Anderson for all that you did!

Funny how you run into people unexpectedly. I had gone over to do a quick change of attire, getting ready for our gig, and who happened to come along but none other than Lisa Hames, President of the Fair Board. We introduced ourselves and had a chit-chat. She told me of a location at the top of one of the foothills where you could see the Puget Sound area for miles and actually see the islands. Nice lady.

Kendra and The Big Dogs opened up with none other than “Elvis” as the emcee for the day! I must say Elvis looks pretty darn good for a 71 year old icon! Inadvertently, earlier in the day I connected up with the bassist, of course, for Kendra and The Big Dogs. There seems to be this vibe that bass players have that steers them to fatefully cross paths. An immediate connection always occurs! What a great guy!

Leon and the rest of us met a lot of really nice people, had a chance to mingle, and the opportunity to sign autographs for those that were interested. I spent a little time with a couple of teens from the school. They were so cool. They loved having a chance to personally check out my basses and get some insights about their interest in music and bass playing. My wishes and prayers go out to anyone having the desire to get into the crazy biz of music!!

My thanks and appreciation goes out to the sound guy, who had to pull all the strings in order to make our day happen. He had a hard job and I am very thankful that he was there and worked as hard as he did. Thanks man!!

Lastly, but certainly not at all least, my sincerest thank you to everyone involved who put the event together this year and graciously provided an opportunity for us to come and entertain at the Quilcene Fair and Parade and South County Classic Car Show in this close-knit community.

Talk to you all in a couple of weeks as I head down the road to Boulder, Colorado for our next big show!
